The Fork in the Outlet...

Each year, Team Darlton come up with a clever code name for some mind-blowing scene in the season finale. In Season 1, the code name was "The Bagel" and referred to Walt's kidnapping by the Others. In Season 2, the bread theme continued with "The Challah," the code name for detection of the electromagnetic anomaly by Penny's listening station. In Season 3, "The Snake in the Mailbox" referred to bearded Jack's encounter with Kate at the airport. Last season, "The Frozen Donkey Wheel" described Ben turning the Wheel behind the Orchid teleportation chamber.

In a recent podcast (SPOILER ALERT) Darlton revealed that this year's code name is "The Fork in the Outlet." But between you and me, I think we can do better. My own suggestion would be "The Exploding Santa Belly." As a small child, I was terrified of department store Santas -- the result of a nightmare that remains vivid in my mind's eye. I'm in a room that's empty except for Santa sitting in a chair. As I approach, his belly begins to ripple and swell like an enormous balloon. Finally, Santa's belly explodes showering me with candy like a giant human pinata.

Okay, it's a little hard to convey the creepiness of my nightmare on paper. For me, however, the Exploding Santa Belly connotes the kind of disturbing surprise we've come to expect from season finales on Lost. What's your suggestion?

Sounds like it's gonna be a zapper!

It reminds me of the time in High School when a kid took two pieces of gum wrapper (back then some were wrapped in foil) folded them thinly and stuck them separately into the classroom wall socket, took a pencil in hand and pushed them together with the erasure, and *POP*! :o)

Santa's belly as a virtual pinata, eh biggy? And you know what the anagram for Santa is right? Similar to Namaste. There you go.

I would say the last ep. should be called Catcher in the Rye Bread.

I strongly suspect that the origins of this code-naming stems from, of all places, The West Wing.

In one episode, Josh chides some staffers for talking about a recession in the White House. "Don't use that word!" he warns them. "Well, what should we call it then?" They settle on "bagel."

This is neither here nor there, but I thought you might enjoy.

Perhaps the "fork in the outlet" is describing the effect of the first time the DI put metalic things into the Orchid chamber????? :-o

I agree that it sounds like it will have something to do with the Orchid, but I'm thinking it's more likely going to describe the immediate local effects of "The Incident" - which are surely coming up soon.

The first runner up name, on the podcast, was "The Fifth Toe" which I like much better. That of course references the infamous four-toed statue, which puts me in the mind of the final shoe dropping or some such metaphor. That may be a much better name for the series finale.

I think the metal in the orchid seems to make the most sense, they mention in the video whatever you do, no mental in the machine and we have all seen what happens.

Also, based on 7th grade science glass experiences - sparks fly and you get good shock from the outlet. So maybe this is what jumps our Losties to 2007 and becomes known as the incident....

From the preview, Ben is holding the Ajira 40 ouncer water bottle. That was the one that the Lefties found before snagging the outrigger and then chased and shot at. So possibly Ben (also Locke, Caesar, Ilana, Sun, Lapidus) could have been doing the shooting (the chaser outrigger seemed to have a few people in it).

I've been thinking that too Koreambear. Did you think that the canoe behind them was shooting with a rifle or a shotgun? It looked like Ceasar had a sawed off shotgun that he hid from Ilana, but then I'm not an expert at that so I could be way off. Anyway, I guess they could have also easily found some rifles laying around the Hydra, for sure.

Look at Doc Jensen's latest Totally Lost video. They interview the kid that played little Ben (good stuff):

No! "The Frozen Donkey Wheel" was the code name for the scene with Locke in the coffin.

The name of something else prominent in the same show was chosen to potentially throw people off the trail, even if they learned what the actually wheel was.

I'm thinking the Fork in the Outlet is a reference to the effect ground zero exposure to the exotic energy had on Desmond when he turned the key in the Swan station. Perhaps we'll see a similar incident occur with Daniel Faraday as he uses a piece of metal to poke the electromagnetic anomaly where the Swan is being built. I predict he'll acquire the same foresight and flashback-relived experiences as Desmond and use the opportunity as his best chance to re-correct a few things.

Scratch my previous prediction; I've cooked up something new. I'm guessing that the "what lies beneath the shadow of the statue"-folks open their crate to reveal a piece of equipment designed to locate/siphon/capture Smokey. Realizing that the elusive Island is nothing but a magnetic rock made special only by Smokey's innate electric properties, they're finally ready to unleash/leash their plan to take control.
